The "Pitch" Tree Theory
Historians believe the original Creek Indian settlement here was called "Standing Pitch Tree" (Pakanahuili). It was named after a massive pine tree used for its sap (pitch).
Over time, the Southern drawl softened "Pitch" into "Peach." So, we might actually be the Big Pine.
Lost in Translation.
Despite the fame, Georgia isn't even the biggest peach producer (South Carolina produces more). But after the Civil War, Georgia marketers rebranded the state as the "Peach State" to move away from the image of cotton.

Peachtree St, Peachtree Rd, Peachtree Blvd, Peachtree Cir, Peachtree Pl... getting lost is a rite of passage.

The main spine. This is where the parades happen, where the Fox Theatre lives, and where you run the Peachtree Road Race.

The confusing downtown hub designed by John Portman. It looks like a sci-fi movie set (and was used in Hunger Games).
The Wrong One
If your GPS says "Peachtree Industrial Blvd," turn around. You are heading to the suburbs, and you will be late for dinner.
